and

Father Joseph D. Porpiglia, Gowanda and Cattaraugus, New York

Sunday, September 24  -  Friday, October 6, 2017

DAY 1              Depart Montreal, Quebec, or Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for your flight to

Sunday             Italy on non-stop Air Canada service. A dinner is served aloft after takeoff,

September 24 and a light breakfast is served prior to your landing in Rome.

(D aloft)

DAY 2              Upon arrival at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino,

Monday           in suburban Rome, meet your English-speaking guide and tour escort who

September 25 will be with you throughout your visit to Italy. Since those arriving from

(B aloft, D)       Montreal will land in Rome ahead of those arriving from Toronto, you will

have time to savor a hearty espresso or cappuccino and a croissant as you

await their arrival.

Once all travelers have arrived your will have the opportunity to introduce

yourselves to one another and then be whisked off in your private motor

coach for your drive into the Eternal City.

During your drive into the city you will make a stop at one of the four major

churches in Rome: the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. This church

marks the traditional site of the burial of the great apostle and evangelizer,

Paul.

Depending on your arrival time at the basilica you will be able to celebrate

the Eucharist either before or after your tour of the church.

Other sites of interest will be pointed out to you as you continue your drive

into the city and to your hotel.

Check into your hotel before enjoying a late afternoon introductory tour of

the historic center of this ancient location.

(Visit or view the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Piazza Venezia and the

Capitoline Hill). Your tour will conclude with a “welcome to Italy dinner”.

Return to your hotel for your overnight accommodations.

DAY 3              Breakfast is served at your hotel and your day focuses on sites in the

Tuesday           Vatican. Begin your visit as you tour the Vatican Museum and the Sistine

September 26 Chapel, the site of papal elections and adorned with frescoes from the

(B)                   hands and genius of Michelangelo and other noted painters.

Enter Saint Peter’s Basilica and be overwhelmed by its grandeur.

Michelangelo’s Pieta awaits you on the right as you enter. Proceed up the

basilica’s main aisle through centuries of history as you make your way to

the main altar, situated purposefully over the site of Saint Peter’s tomb.

After you visit to the basilica the remainder of the day is at your leisure, and

dinner is on your own this evening in any one of the city’s countless restaurants.

DAY 4              After your breakfast at the hotel you will return to the Vatican this morning

Wednesday     in order to participate in the weekly general audience granted to visitors to

(B, D)               the city by Pope Francis.

An afternoon tour of other sites in the city will thrill you. Visit or view the

Spanish Square and its associated famous steps, the American Embassy and

the Via Veneto, the Piazza Colonna and the ever famous Trevi Fountain. Be certain to toss a coin in the fountain to guarantee your return to the city at some time in the future.

Dinner will be served at a local restaurant and your overnight accommodations

are at your hotel in the city.

DAY 5              Breakfast is served at your hotel. The entire day is at your leisure for

Thursday         personal sightseeing. Optional tours are available to Assisi, the home of September 28            Saints Francis and Clare or to Florence (just over 1 hour from Rome by

(B)                   express train) or to Tivoli to see the ruins of Hadrian’s villa and to marvel at

the gardens and fountains of the Villa d’Este.

Dinner is on your own this evening, and your overnight accommodations are at                            your hotel in the city.

DAY 6              After breakfast, bid farewell to Rome this morning and begin your drive

Friday              southward to Naples and onward to Sorrento.

September 29

(B, D)               Drive along the Mediterranean coast to visit Anzio, the strategic beachhead

of January, 1944, and the Sicily-Rome American cemetery nearby.

Continue to the Benedictine monastery at Monte Cassino to visit the

historic religious house and the neighboring Polish cemetery with burials from WW2.

Naples clings to a sparkling bay at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Drive through the

city on your way to Sorrento which is situated on the Bay of Naples on the

Sorrentine Peninsula.

Dinner and overnight at your accommodations in Sorrento.

DAY 7              The Isle of Capri is within reach of Sorrento, and today you will       sail across a

Saturday          part of the bay to visit the island. Here you will visit or view the Belvedere,

September 30 the town of Anacapri and the ruins of the Villa Jovis built by the Roman

(B)                   emperor Tiberius.

After your return to Sorrento the remainder of the day is at your leisure for

personal sightseeing and relaxation.

Dinner is on your own this evening, and your overnight accommodations

are at your hotel in Sorrento.

DAY 8              Today’s outing will take you from Sorrento along the southern coast of the

Sunday             peninsula to visit Positano (where Limoncello is produced!) and onward to

October 3

(B, D)               A group dinner will be served in Rome and your overnight accommodations

are at a hotel in the Eternal City.

DAY 11            After breakfast depart for Assisi, the home of Saints Francis and
